Four Benefits to Water Jet Cutting Techniques

1. Cold Cutting

There are a wide variety of materials out there which can be harmed by heat-based cutting techniques.  Steel and other metals can become brittle by heating and cooling. Wood gets scorched. Plastics will outright melt. Some materials are so heat resistant that heat-based cutting won’t even work.

However, water jet cutting is entirely cold (i.e., room temperature), meaning it won’t harm materials which react badly to heat.

2. Smooth Precision Cuts

It’s a bit counter-intuitive, but modern high-pressure water jet cutters are extremely precise and accurate.  They can hold accuracy down to .005″ or even lower, with excellent repeatability. That also means, unlike physical cutting methods such as diamond-tip saws, you don’t have to worry about chaff, flakes, cracks, or other irregularities that come from cutting methods that chew up the material.

Likewise, no finishing methods, like smoothing or sanding, are required. This reduces the time expenditure drastically.
